Morphological Summary
Genus of epiphytic bromeliads segregated from Vriesea by J.R. Grant in 1995, with about 80 species distributed in Central America, the Caribbean, and northern South America. Distinguished from Vriesea mainly by bicomate seeds — with plumose filaments at both ends — and floral structure details. Mainly inhabits cloud forests and tropical rainforests from lowlands to montane zones.
