Distribution Pantropical; probably native to the Pacific or Southeast Asia; now cultivated on all tropical coasts worldwide.
Conservation Least Concern; however, some traditional varieties are threatened by diseases such as Lethal Yellowing and monocultures lacking genetic diversity.
