Morphological Summary

Genus of fan palms in subfamily Coryphoideae, native from South and Southeast Asia to the Pacific. They are long-lived monocarpic plants: they can live 40–80 years before flowering once and dying. They produce the largest inflorescence in the plant kingdom.

Distribution South and Southeast Asia: India, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, to the Philippines and northern Australia.
Conservation Several species Critically Endangered or extinct in the wild; C. taliera near-extinct in its natural range.
